The popular city centre pub, The Sheffield Tap, is the host venue for a Festival of Social Sciences talk and quiz on why the Steel City is the world-renowned “Home of Football”.

Dr John Wilson, from the University of Sheffield, will be discussing with the folks who attend 40 contributions Sheffield has made to the beautiful game, leading it to be “increasingly known around the world as the home of football”. The quiz will be focussing on those 40 reasons the event discusses.

During the summer, the eight Women’s EUROs games held across Sheffield United’s Bramall Lane and Rotherham United’s New York Stadium contributed £8million to the local economy, with the city’s unique football heritage said to be part of the reason the region was chosen to host the games.

Sheffielders are being encouraged to attend and share their love for football and celebrate the city’s historic input to the much-loved sport. The quiz will be held on November 9 at 6.30pm.
