Who to watch in South Yorkshire boxing, 2026
Dalton Smith opened the New Year boxing calendar with a sensational WBC title win this month.
It will be hard to top that in 2026 - although the champion may try to do exactly that if he gets to defend his belt at Sheffield Wednesday's ground in the summer.

But Dalton isn't the only South Yorkshire fighter to keep an eye on.
Here are a few relevant dates for fight fans' diary:
January 31:
Adam Azim is in a 12-rounder at London's Copper Box Arena - BBC viewers can watch the skilled, super lightweight fighter who could face Smith in the months to come.
On the same night, Doncaster's Josh Padley competes for the vacant EBU European Super Featherweight title at Newcastle Arena.
Also on the 31st, and more locally, there is a 10-fight bill at Barnsley Metrodome, featuring the likes of Doncaster's Lewis Booth and Rotherham debutant Burhan Nishat.

February 7:
Rotherham heavyweight Kash Ali returns to the sport in Cannock for the first time in two years.
February 21:
Two South Yorkshire boxers with plenty to prove take to the ring in Nottingham.

But Dave Allen and Junaid Bostan lost their last fights, both of which were high-profile events. Their opponents have yet to be named by Matchroom.
March 6:
Barnsley Metrodome opens its door again, with Wombwell welterweight Jake Jon Cleary on a card also featuring Parson Cross super lightweight Kerry Orton as well as Doncaster's Billy Jarmolinski and Joshua Simms.
March 8:

The Manor estate's Bree Wright competes for the vacant Commonwealth Super Welterweight strap (vacant) in a bill-topper at the Olympia, Liverpool. Nigerian Blessing Oluwasegun is in the opposition corner.
March 27:
First show of the year at Doncaster Dome. Twenty-one fight Joe Hayden from Conisbrough takes on James Atkins in a 10-round welterweight, battle-of-the-unbeatens.
The bill includes Reece Mould, Mykyle Ahmed, Calvin Moyo, Edward Hardy, Declan Cairns, Samantha Lightfoot, Darnell Sterling and five debutants.
March 28:
After a frustrating postponement, Sheffield's Shakiel Thompson takes on Brad Pauls over 10 rounds at the Co-op Live Arena, Manchester.
On the same night, Rotherham's Magna Centre hosts a Jamie Sheldon/Ryan Rhodes show.
Super bantam Ellie Hellewell is back for the first time since her heroic defeat to Tysie Gallagher in September.
She will be on after the likes of locals Connan Murray, Jimmy Joe Flint, Mohammed Subhaan, Kacie Doocey, Adam Geelan and Cory Sagar.
So plenty to come - and keep your eyes open for fight dates yet to be announced.
Those include: Terri Harper, Callum Simpson, Nicola Hopewell, Maxi Hughes, Ebanie Bridges, Liam Cameron, Conner Kelsall, Taz Nadeem, Sheldon McDonald, Naphtali Nembhard, Nohmaan Hussain, Hughie Wilson, Mikey Harrison, Mason Dickinson, Bianca and Red Johnson.
