Ebanie Bridges gives Kell Brook an 80s makeover

They say you should never go back.

But Ebanie Bridges and Kell Brook have just proved there is at least one exception – provided you have access to ChatGPT, plenty of hairspray and absolutely no objection to shoulder pads.

The boxing couple have taken a virtual trip back to the 1980s, transforming themselves into what they might have looked like had they been invited to a glamorous boxing night of the decade.

Bridges shared a series of the AI-generated images with her Instagram followers, writing: “Had to join the 80s trendswipe to see @specialkellbrook 🤣 the last one is my fav tho… which one is yours? Should we bring back shoulder pads and boofy hair? #80strend”

Judging by the reaction, there may be a surprisingly strong case for doing exactly that.

Kell's look in particular prompted one admirer to declare him “very Miami vice” – and it is hard to argue.

The Sheffield former world champion appears to have been transported straight into an episode of an Eighties crime drama, where the dress code consisted of pastel tailoring, heroic hair and looking extremely serious while leaning against an expensive car.

Bridges, meanwhile, looks every inch the Eighties glamour queen, complete with the kind of voluminous hairstyle that appears to have its own weather system.

Wincobank trainer Dom Ingle was quick to point out that Brook was entering dangerous territory.

“Once you’ve seen it you can’t un-see it,” he wrote, before invoking a formidable roll call of Eighties gym chic: Johnny Nelson, Clifton Mitchell, Danny Thompson and Paul Stinger Mason.

“@specialkellbrook would have struggled to hang with the big dogs,” Ingle joked.

As for Bridges, Ingle suggested she had nothing to worry about.

“You’d be fine looks like a normal night out for you.”

The pictures certainly struck a chord with Bridges' Instagram followers, with Brook himself among those showing his approval, while fellow boxing names including Johnny Nelson, Nicola Hopewell, Dave Coldwell and Ricky Reeves also admired the throwback transformations.

There is an especially neat twist to the time travel, because both Bridges and Brook were born in 1986 – the decade of shoulder pads, oversized jackets, giant hair and spectacularly bold styling.

Bridges was born in Sydney on September 22, 1986, and went on to become one of Australia's best-known boxers. She captured the IBF bantamweight world title in 2022, beating Maria Cecilia Roman for the belt.

Brook, born in Sheffield on May 3, 1986, became one of Britain's leading welterweights and won the IBF world champion in 2014 after beating Shawn Porter.

In other words, there was rather a lot of life to come after those Eighties beginnings – world titles, big purses and, most recently, parenthood, with the couple welcoming their son, Ezerra Ray Brook, in 2025.
