The Beatles played their first Sheffield gig at the Azena Ballroom in Gleadless on April 2, 1963, booked by a young Peter Stringfellow.
Located on White Lane in Gleadless, it was actually the second location for The Beatles first gig in the city after Stringfellow was forced to move it from the Black Cat Club after the band's explosion in popularity.
It was one of many gigs both in the city and across the region over the course of two years until their 1965 Sheffield City Hall performance.
The Fab Four said goodbye to the city on December 8, 1965, performing at Barker’s Pool during their final UK tour.
We take a step back in time to unearth images of the Fab Four, places they stayed, venues they played and we even found a set-list from one of the shows back then.
Do you remember when Beatlemania hit South Yorkshire in the 1960s?

It's hard to imagine from looking at it but this supermarket site in Sheffield is where the Beatles played a 'momentous' early gig on April 2, 1963. Where the Co-op today stands on White Lane, in Gleadless Town End, used to be the Azena Ballroom. It was there legendary nightclub owner Peter Stringfellow organised the gig, simply called The Beatles Show, to promote the Fab Four’s first album, Please Please Me. He had to move the gig to the Azena from a smaller venue due to the huge demand for tickets as Beatlemania took off. | Google
