The Beatles played their first Sheffield gig at the Azena Ballroom in Gleadless on April 2, 1963, booked by a young Peter Stringfellow.
Located on White Lane in Gleadless, it was actually the second location for The Beatles first gig in the city after Stringfellow was forced to move it from the Black Cat Club after the band's explosion in popularity.
It was one of many gigs both in the city and across the region over the course of two years until their 1965 Sheffield City Hall performance.
The Fab Four said goodbye to the city on December 8, 1965, performing at Barker’s Pool during their final UK tour.
We take a step back in time to unearth images of the Fab Four, places they stayed, venues they played and we even found a set-list from one of the shows back then.
Do you remember when Beatlemania hit South Yorkshire in the 1960s?

5. Peter Stringfellow - Black Cat Club
The late club magnate Peter Stringfellow, who was born in Pitsmoor, had a number of jobs as a teenager before finding his calling. He worked at a potted meat factory, the Wicker Cinema, and at Austin Reed as a tie salesman, before spending two years as a kitchen galley boy in the Merchant Navy. It was in 1962, struggling to find work, that he began renting St Aidan's Church Hall in Sheffield every Friday night, where he launched the Black Cat Club. His big break came a year later when he booked a then relatively little-known act called the Beatles. As the band's popularity exploded he was forced to find a bigger venue, hiring the Azena Ballroom. He later opened the King Mojo Club in Sheffield before expanding his empire to encompass Leeds, Manchester, London and even New York | National World
