They offer a snapshot of life across Sheffield in 1987, showing some of the city’s best-loved attractions back then.
Do you remember Hamley’s toy shop on The Moor, Zodiac toys, or, most famously, the beloved Redgates, also known as the Yorkshire Disneyland?
They are all pictured in this retro photo gallery, which also features the lost lido at Millhouses Park, the old Odeon Cinema at what was the Gaumont, and much more.
The football legend Emlyn Hughes is seen opening Orchard Square shopping centre, a young Naseem Hamed, the subject of a major new biopic, is pictured with his classmates, and the winners of that year’s Miss Sheffield Star contest are shown posing for the camera.
Some of the biggest events of the 80s are also captured, including the Lord Mayor’s Parade, which drew huge crowds, the Sheffield Marathon, the Star Walk and the Milk Race.
Lost pubs, striking steelworkers and the dazzling Christmas lights display feature too in this trip down memory lane.
While most of the photos show how the city looked nearly 40 years ago, one reveals how different it could have looked had plans for a huge underground car park beneath Sheffield’s Peace Gardens gone ahead.
Do these photos bring back any happy memories of the 80s for you?
