We took a dive into our archives to look at the rapidly changing city of Sheffield in the 1980s.
The early 1980s were a significant time of change for the city of Sheffield. What was predominantly a manufacturing city was heavily impacted over the late 1970s into the early 1980s, as more than a thousand jobs in the manufacturing sector were being lost each month.
There were positive things going on in the city, too. Fargate was redeveloped in 1981 and the Leadmill opened in May 1980 as a community arts centre, before later becoming a celebrated and iconic live music venue, to name but a few.
Take a look back at the city of Sheffield 46-years-ago… are there any things that you remember from that year?
