The frustration felt by such volunteers has been recently echoed by the Friends of Sheffield Castle and I can testify that this is not a new phenomenon.

The funding obtained should have devoted solely to the castle archaeology - unless I am losing my marbles I have a recollection that some of the castle fabric is being covered and the question of its conservation is somewhat doubtful.

I don't see the need to add public art to the site.

So what can we expect when the site is eventually finished? Well by itself it won't be a tourist attraction and as for a discovery centre - well we will see.

It’s a great pity that the Friends of the Castle, The Hunter Archaeology Society and what's left of the South Yorkshire Archaeology Unit with a with all its archaeological resource apparently felt unable to lobby more forcefully - after all the castle remains should be what its all about.

Perhaps some of the recent finds could be highlighted?
