Sainsbury's is offering Nectar customers 25% off more than 600 Taste the Difference products, and some freezer-friendly favourites could be bought now and saved for Christmas.

If you’re lucky enough to have a large or spare freezer, September could actually be a smart time to start stocking up for Christmas and the festive season.

That’s because Sainsbury’s is currently offering Nectar customers 25% off more than 600 Taste the Difference products, with the promotion running until next Tuesday October 6. That means shoppers who spot Christmas-worthy favourites in the current offer could potentially buy them now, freeze them and have some of the festive food already sorted before December arrives.

We’ve checked for you and have found several of the Taste the Difference products currently included in the promotion are suited to getting ahead because they can be frozen now and used within three months. Depending on exactly when you order and recieve your goods, that means you could eat these things during Christmas or New Year’s celebrations.

Take the 30 Days Matured British Beef Roasting Joint. The approximately 1.4kg British beef joint is currently £19.84 with Nectar, down from £26.45, and Sainsbury’s says it should be frozen as soon as possible after purchase and within its use-by date, then consumed within three months.

This is one consider if you’re already thinking about a Christmas roast but don’t want to leave the main event until the supermarket aisles are packed with festive shoppers and the shelves start to empty.

There’s also the smaller Aberdeen Angus Roasting Joint, perhaps better suited to smaller households, which is currently £7.50 with Nectar instead of £10. Sainsbury’s describes it as British Aberdeen Angus beef, dry aged on the bone for 14 days and supplied with a bone marrow and thyme jus. It can also be frozen and consumed within three months.

For Christmas entertaining, the Mini Pies & Vol-au-Vent Sharing Selection, is another freezer-friendly option that can be defrosted in time for seasonal parties. The 48-piece selection includes mini beef, Dorset ale and mature Cheddar pies, chicken and ham hock pies, plus smoked salmon, caramelised onion and Cheddar, and Cheddar and smoked bacon vol-au-vents. It serves 24 and is currently £15 with Nectar, reduced from £20.

Sainsbury’s storage guidance says the sharing selection says it should be frozen as soon as possible after purchase and within its use-by date, then consumed within three months, making it particularly handy for anyone planning Christmas drinks and nibbles, Boxing Day gatherings or a festive buffet.

And it’s not just savoury food that could be put aside. The Brioche Bread & Butter Pudding (500g) is currently £3.94 with Nectar, down from £5.25. It serves six and combines brioche, butter, Madagascan vanilla double cream custard and flame raisins. This classic pudding can actually be frozen within its use-by date and consumed within six months, so if you do end up with too much for those two December weeks you can still enjoy this well in to 2027.

So, if you have spare freezer space and already know you’ll be hosting family or friends over the festive period, the 25% off Taste the Difference promotion offers an opportunity to spread some of that Christmas spending across the autumn rather than tackling everything in December.

And with 25% off more than 600 selected Taste the Difference products for Nectar customers until October 6, it could be worth thinking about what you can get in your freezer before the offer disappears.

  • Offers and availability may vary. Nectar Prices require a Nectar account and are subject to Sainsbury’s terms and product availability. Always check the individual product’s packaging and storage instructions before freezing.
