Noughties music stars Liberty X and Hear’Say are joining forces for a 13-date UK and Ireland arena tour, 25 years after they were formed on hit ITV talent show Popstars.
Liberty X and Hear’Say are set to reunite for a joint UK and Ireland arena tour, marking 25 years since the two groups were formed on ITV talent show Popstars.
Kym Marsh, Suzanne Shaw, Danny Foster, Noel Sullivan and Myleene Klass shot to fame after winning the competition in 2001 as Hear’Say, while the other five finalists, Michelle Heaton, Jessica Taylor, Kelli Young, Tony Lundon and Kevin Simm, went on to form Liberty X.
Hear’Say went on to enjoy huge chart success with hits including Pure And Simple and The Way To Your Love before splitting in 2002. Now, four original members of the group will reunite for the first time in 25 years, with Klass not taking part.
They will join all members of Liberty X for the Popstars: The Originals tour, with both groups set to perform their biggest hits from the noughties.
Liberty X found their own chart success with songs including Just A Little, Thinking It Over and Being Nobody, and the joint tour will mark the first time the two groups have performed together.
The 13-date arena tour will kick off in Dublin in April 2027, before then heading to Belfast, Bournemouth, Nottingham, Brighton, Cardiff, Birmingham, Leeds, Newcastle, Glasgow, London, Manchester and Liverpool.
Tickets go on general sale at 9am on Friday October 16. Full tour dates, venues and ticket prices have not yet been announced.
Marsh, who has gone on to enjoy a successful career as an actress, singer and TV presenter, said the reunion is set to be an emotional experience. Speaking to the Press Association, the former Coronation Street star said: “We were just young famous kids who had a dream, and that dream came true for us.
“We had amazing fans, and we had a wonderful time . . . and we did an arena tour all those years ago. So the prospect of being able to go out and do it again and not only with each other, but with Liberty X, is really exciting.”
All members of Hear’say and Liberty X were aged between 19 and 24 at the time the two bands were formed. They are now all in their mid 40s to early 50s and most have children, and some also grandchildren.
Taylor said the experience of being thrown into the spotlight through Popstars was something none of the contestants could have anticipated. “We didn’t know what we were letting ourselves in for. There had never been a show like that before,” she said. “Now we’re parents, so you look at it through like different eyes.
“It’s really nice for us to be able to do this, for fun and for celebration. There’s none of the pressure that any of us had when we were kids. We’re just here to have a ball.”
For Shaw, the reunion is particularly significant after Hear’Say went their separate ways more than two decades ago.
She told PA that the group had “not sung together for 25 years” following their split. “This is really big, and this is brand new again for us, so it’s been really emotional,” she said. “We’re loving every minute of it.”
Heaton said returning to the arena stage after 25 years feels “really humbling”, particularly now that the members of both groups have families of their own. “To be on such a big stage in front of that many people again at this point in life after 25 years, it’s really humbling,” she said.
“We’ve all got children amongst us, and a couple of us have grandchildren, and they’re going to see what we got to do years ago once again. It’s the most exciting thing.”
