As someone with combination skin, finding a foundation that gets the finish right isn’t easy, but this one surprised me.
I heard so many good things about e.l.f.’s Soft Glam Satin Foundation that, eventually, I stopped reading the reviews and went straight out to buy it. And I have to admit, I was fully expecting to understand what all the fuss was about. Spoiler: it lives up to the hype.
Foundation is one of those makeup products I find particularly difficult to get right because I have combination skin. Some areas of my face can be oily, while others are much drier, so a foundation that looks great on one part of my skin can sometimes leave another looking too shiny, too dry or just a little bit cakey.
That is why the finish of a foundation matters so much to me. After years of reaching for matte formulas, I have found myself moving towards something much softer. I want my skin to still look like skin, rather than feeling as though I have covered it in a layer of makeup. That was exactly what caught my attention about the Soft Glam Satin Foundation.

It has a satin finish, with medium buildable coverage, so you can keep things relatively light or add more where you actually need it. e.l.f. says it is suitable for dry, oily and combination skin, which immediately made me curious because that is exactly the kind of formula I have been looking for.
There are so many foundations that promise to give you that 'your skin but better' finish, but they can sometimes leave me wondering where the coverage went. This one manages to give me enough coverage while still keeping that softer, more skin-like finish I have been looking for.
There are 36 shades available across different undertones, and the formula includes 1% Hydrating Hibiscus Complex alongside pomegranate, blueberry and goji berry extracts. So, was it worth me hearing about it approximately a million times before finally buying it? Honestly, yes.
I went into this thinking it would probably be another viral beauty product that was good, but perhaps not quite as good as everyone made out. Instead, e.l.f. Soft Glam Satin Foundation has completely justified my decision to run out and buy it.
