It felt more like summer than spring today, as the temperature reached 21C, and people made a beeline for the city’s green spaces after clocking off to make the most of the good weather.

This video and these photos show sun worshippers in Endcliffe Park where surrounding roads were reportedly ‘gridlocked’ at around 5pm.

Endcliffe Park today

The good weather has coincided with lockdown restrictions being eased yesterday, allowing people to gather outdoors, including in private gardens, in groups of either six people or two households.

The team at Sheffield’s Weston Park weather station said today was only the 12th time since 1883 and the first since 2012 that the temperature there had exceeded 20C in March.

More sunshine is expected tomorrow, with the Met Office forecasting a top temperature of 20C, before it cools dramatically to 10C on Thursday.
