Nine of the best photos as Sheffield basks in 21C spring sunshine

Sheffield basked in the hottest day of the year so far and one of the warmest March days ever, as the temperature reached 21C.

Sun worshippers were out in force to make the most of the unseasonal weather, which made it feel more like the height of summer in the city than spring.

The team at Sheffield’s Weston Park weather station said temperatures had only previously exceeded 20C during March 11 times since 1883, the last being in 2012.

Shortly after 1pm, it said the temperature had already reached 20.9C.

Sheffield is set for another day of sunshine tomorrow, with the Met Office forecasting a top temperature of 20C, but things are expected to get considerably colder on Thursday as the maximum temperature plunges to 10C.
