19 dramatic photos capture worst of Storm Babet flooding and damage one year on, as new gale lashes UK

Today marks exactly one year since Sheffield took a major battering from Storm Babet.

A river burst its banks, inundating a popular park, the flood gates went up at Meadowhall, and numerous flood warnings were issued as water levels rose dangerously high.

With the UK battening down the hatches as Storm Ashley brings more gale-force winds and heavy rain, these photos look back at the worst of the flooding and damage from Friday, October 20, 2023.

They show flooding at Endcliffe and Hillsborough parks, footpaths submerged, a stranded car, and flood barriers up beside the River Don.

But amid all the weather chaos, Sheffield legend John Burkhill, known as the Man with the Pram, is seen hitting the streets as usual to collect money for charity.
