Sheffield United secured the Professional Development League Two North title after coming-from-behind to beat local rivals Sheffield Wednesday 2-1 today.

Second half goals from Jordan Hallam and Horatio Hirst cancelled out Jordan Lonchar’s 17th minute opener as the Blades Under-18s claimed maximum points at Middlewood Road.

It was sweet revenge for United, who lost 2-0 when the two sides last met thanks to a brace by George Hirst.

England Under-18 international Hirst struck the post moments before Lonchar put the Owls in front. He rifled home following good link up by Fraser Preston and Hirst.

Stephen Mallon flashed a shot across the face of goal and Sam Graham headed wide from a corner as United finished the first half strongly.

It took an immaculate challenge by Liam Williams to prevent Hallam from breaking clear after the restart.

United looked more threatening as an attacking force and Hallam equalised just after the hour mark.

Tempers flared in the closing stages as both sides pressed hard for a winner.

Neither Williams or Hirst could force the ball in after a goalmouth scramble and then Hirst blazed over when well-placed.

But the Blades completed the turnaround in the 86th minute, with Horatio Hirst coolly turning in Tyler Smith’s low cross.
