Trees were uprooted, collapsing on roads and in at least one case crushing a car.

Today, Monday, August 26, fallen trees remain strewn across pathways at Hillsborough Park as clean-up operations continue.

Shocking pictures from the scene show dirt torn from the ground as large trees block paths at the popular park.

An announcement from the Hillsborough Green Party on Facebook added: “The tarmac path from Broughton Road through to Hawksley Road is currently blocked by this tree that came down over the weekend in Hillsborough Park.

“There is room to walk round the tree on the grass.”

Meanwhile, train travel remains disrupted in the aftermath of the strong weather.

Multiple routes from Leeds and York are set to be disrupted throughout the day as Network Rail respond to issues, including fallen trees on overhead lines and rail tracks.

Travellers are being advised to check their journeys before setting off.

Sheffield City Council have been approached for comment on when Hillsborough Park paths will be cleared.
