Man airlifted to hospital after crash on M1 near Sheffield

A man has been airlifted to hospital after a crash on the M1 near Sheffield this evening, Friday, February 12.

Emergency services were called shortly before 4.45pm to reports of a collision on the northbound carriageway of the motorway between junctions 30, for Balborough, and 31. for Aston.

The road was closed in both directions as Yorkshire Air Ambulance landed, with police and firefighters also at the scene.

A spokeswoman for South Yorkshire Police said it had been called at 4.43pm to reports of a collision involving a car and a lorry.

She said one man had been airlifted to hospital with injuries which were not believed to be life-threatening.

No one else was seriously injured in the collision, she added.

Highways England had said the collision involved ‘mutliple vehicles’, but the police spokeswoman said no other vehicles were believed to have been involved.

The southbound carriageway reopened after the air ambulance landed, and the northbound carriageway reopened fully at around 7.30pm.
