Bus skids into parked van on Sheffield street as snow causes chaos on roads

A bus is stuck in snow on a street in a Sheffield suburb this morning as wintry weather wreaks havoc.

The bus got into difficulty on Laverack Street, Handsworth, with residents suggesting the driver was unable to get the single-decker up the hill so may have reversed and attempted to get down the street in the opposite direction.

There are issues on roads across the city after this morning’s snow, which is forecast for most of the day.

South Yorkshire Police has urged people to avoid travelling.

It said: “It is set to snow all day today and there is already a blanket covering of snow on a lot of roads in South Yorkshire.

“Please only travel if you really do need to, and if you do, take extra care.”

According to Travel South Yorkshire, Powells Bus, TM Travel and R&S Watersons have suspended all services and Stagecoach Yorkshire has suspended services Sheffield, Rotherham, Barnsley and Doncaster.
