Major road cordoned off after crash as huge multi-service response launched
Police are advising residents to avoid the area
A major road has been closed following a serious crash today (September 26).
East Bawtry Road in Whiston has been closed following a road traffic collision.
The closure is in place between the golf club and Worrygoose Way.
Photos from the scene appear to show smoke, with several police vehicles, fire engines and ambulances in attendance.
Earlier videos circulating online appear to show a car on fire, with thick black smoke rising from the vehicle.
A police cordon has now been put in place, with multiple police officers stationed at the scene.
A South Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “Please be aware that a road closure is in place on East Bawtry Road in Whiston due to a road traffic collision.
“We are advising people to avoid the area and plan an alternative route if possible.”
The road remains closed while emergency services deal with the incident.
