Search launched for specialist to update Sheffield’s landmark community heritage plan
Joined Up Heritage Sheffield has invited bids for somebody to review its community-led Heritage Strategy and refresh its citywide action plan
Joined Up Heritage Sheffield has opened the search for an expert to steer the next phase of its grassroots Heritage Strategy.

The organisation is seeking a facilitator with local knowledge to review the overarching strategy and update its accompanying Action Plan. The six-month initiative will run from January to June 2027.
First published in 2021, the document is believed to be the first community-led, grassroots heritage strategy in the country, having been formed through a series of workshops with the city's heritage community.
It was subsequently adopted by Sheffield City Council, prompting the local authority to appoint a permanent, full-time Heritage Development Manager and recognise the role of an elected member serving as Heritage Champion.
The appointed contractor will be tasked with assessing the strategy’s relevance, reach and achievements to date. Gathering public feedback will form a central part of the remit, utilising in-person workshops, public gatherings and digital channels, alongside identifying fresh evidence to bolster the framework.
Under the strategy, heritage is given a wide definition, covering anything valued from the past to be preserved for future generations. This encompasses buildings, landscapes, traditions, crafts, radical histories, archives, legends, faiths, languages and songs.
Tender submissions and enquiries must be submitted via email to [email protected]. The deadline for bids is Friday, November 13.
