Sounds can be heard for miles away because of recent closure
For years they held their sports days at Woodbourn Road.
But today the sounds of a tannoy can be heard from miles around as one of one of Sheffield’s biggest schools turns to its own school fields to host its annual event.

Hundreds of youngsters are on the fields at King Edward VII School’s lower school site near Crosspool as pupils take part in their annual sports day throughout this morning and this afternoon.
The sound of the tannoy describing the races can be heard for miles around,
In recent years, King Edwards has been one of those which has used Woodbourn Road for sports days.
Schools have been forced out of Woodbourn Road this year, because the venue was closed for all but coaching sessions with qualified coaches.
Hallam University said recently of its re-opening only for specialist coaches: “The track cannot be used for athletics competitions, events, school sports days or independent training. Whilst we understand that this doesn't provide a solution for all users, we hope this revised arrangement will allow athletes to return to training at Woodburn Road and provide a practical way for the athletics community to continue making use of the facility.
“We recognise that the closure of the track has been frustrating for coaches, athletes and clubs who rely on the facility, and we would like to thank you/them for your/their patience while we have worked through the finding of the recent inspection and sought advice from UKA ( UK Athletics ).
“We are working with Sheffield City Council to find a long-term solution that protects the future of the track and keeps it serving the Sheffield Community.”
