Rotherham United: Millers boss Redfearn quick with praise for pacy Facey

Facey, who turned 21 earlier this month, saw off the challenge of Brighton’s Jamie Murphy in the Millers’ 2-0 win on Tuesday, leaving Redfearn delighted he has the right-back from Manchester City at his disposal for the rest of the season.

“I thought for an hour against Murphy, who’s a top player, he was outstanding,” the manager said. “What he does as a full-back is he gets to wide players quickly. He’s got that five or six yards of pace where he can get to people fast. He squashed Murphy, he didn’t give him chance to breathe.”

Facey was brought off against the Seagulls as he tired in the second half and the Millers played safe with his hamstring niggle, but is fit for today’s home clash with QPR.

“He’s got an appetite for defending and a real determination,” Redfearn added. “If he does something wrong, he gets angry with himself. I think he’s got an absolutely outstanding attitiude. He’s going to get better.

“There are going to be times when he mistakes. You get that with kids. As long as he cuts them down to a minimum and keeps learning and keeps developing, he’ll be fine.”

Another likely starter this afternoon is striker Matt Derbyshire, who was picked against Brighton as Rotherham switched to a 4-4-2 formation and marked his return with a goal.

“This is what you want players to do - when they get their chance, you want them to come in and take it,” Redfearn said. “He has got his shirt back and now he has to keep it.

“He has to keep performing like that, keep nicking the odd goal or two. If he does that then he will stay in the team.”

Meanwhile, goalkeeper Adam Collin believes he has played his final match for the Millers after joining Scottish Premiership side Aberdeen on loan to the end of the season.

“My Rotherham contract expires in the summer so I’d like to prove my worth and hopefully stay at Aberdeen longer term,” the 31-year-old said.

“First and foremost, I just want to get playing again and then worry about that at the end of the season. It will be a great challenge and I’m raring to go.”

Collin was a hero of the Millers’ 2014 League One Play-off Final win at Wembley, saving two penalties in a shootout, and made more than 30 Championship appearances last season, but he has found his chances limited this term by the form of Lee Camp.
