Rotary Club helps victims

GENEROUS rotarians have donated £1,500 to help people in the 575 Barnsley homes hit by flooding.

Philip Thompson, president of Barnsley Rockley Rotary Club, handed the cash to Barnsley Mayor Coun Len Picken at the Town Hall.

The cash will go to the South Yorkshire Flood Victim Support Appeal which has been organised by the South Yorkshire Community Foundation.

Mr Thompson said the club had chosen to support people suffering hardship and distress as a result of the severe flooding earlier this summer, which affected 575 homes in Barnsley alone.

He added: “We have a disaster fund on which we call both for international disasters and local emergencies such as this one. We are very pleased to be able to contribute to the fund to provide relief to those affected.”

Coun Picken said: “Once again the Rotary Club in Barnsley has done a magnificent job.’’
