POWER CUT UPDATE- thousands of customers affected as extent of Sheffield black out is revealed

Thousands of customers had their power cut this morning with many in Sheffield still without electricity.

At 11.35am today the power was cut off for 2,086 customers across the postcodes S10 and S11, Northern Powergrid has reported.

Of the people affected 809 have had their power restored so far.

Northern Powergrid reported that the fault may have been caused by 'extensive excavation and repair works' in the area.

The news comes six days after another power cut affecting a similar area.

On Sunday evening 2,710 customers in S11 were without power for a ten minute period.

Northern Powergrid said that at this stage is does not appear that the faults are linked.

A spokesperson added: "Apologies to all our customers who have been affected."
