Between May 7 and 8, four men were injured in four separate shootings across the city, including three in Sharrow and Nether Edge. The other shooting took place on Grimesthorpe Road, Burngreave. Police have not confirmed if the incidents are all linked but said they were being treated as targeted attacks.

Five men have been arrested in connection with one of the shootings, which took place on Machon Bank in Nether Edge at around 6.50pm on Friday 8 May.

Police previously linked the shootings to feuding drug gangs while Cllr Steinke called for tighter controls on gun shops following a break-in at a city gunsmiths.

He said: “We all need to be clear that as great, diverse communities, Sharrow and Nether Edge will not allow drug gangs, shootings and other violent crime to divide us.

“Can I encourage anyone with any information to report things, however small they may seem, to the police or Crimestoppers. There will shortly be banners going up across Sharrow and Nether Edge saying the we will not be divided and giving details of how to report crime.”

He added: “Sharrow and Nether Edge are great places to live, and we as a community are determined to make sure that long continues.”
