A Sheffield developer has dropped the number of flats it wants to build in a city suburb from 67 to 53.

Proposals have been submitted to Sheffield City Council to demolish the Gospel Meeting Hall on Carter Knowle Road and build 53 apartments in buildings of up to five storeys.

One block of apartments has been dropped from the scheme.

The plan has been opposed by 41 objectors, including Millhouses, Ecclesall and Carter Knowle Community Group, and supported by two people.

An online petition to the council, based on the original proposal, was signed by 108 people.

Objections include worries of over-development of the site and the strain on local infrastructure, the effect on wildlife and a lack of affordable housing in the plans.
