Sheffield Council received a number of complaints about cars frequently parking on both sides of Riverdale Road, in particular from the junction with Endcliffe Vale Road, the junction with Park Avenue and where the road fronts on to Endcliffe Park.

In a report, John Priestley, senior transport planner, said: “Although some of this parking is residents themselves, the residents contend that it is a mixture of commuter and student parking and visitors to Endcliffe Park.

“The majority of residents of Riverdale Road have been requesting parking restrictions for several years. The scheme has been welcomed by those affected by the problems.”

Double yellow lines will be painted at sections of Riverdale Road from its junction with Endcliffe Vale Road, on either side of the entrance to a flats complex and around the junction with Park Avenue.

The council said visitors will still be able to park their car near Endcliffe but there will be better visibility and access, especially at busy times.

Further funding has been provided to extend the scheme to more streets than initially planned.

Council Leader Bob Johnson, who also represents Hillsborough, said: “I know residents have been asking for these changes and I’m delighted that we’re able to respond in this way.

“The benefits of safer roads cannot be understated and there is clear evidence about the reduction in, and severity of, accidents in 20mph zones. This will also help improve local air quality which is a crucial health benefit to residents.

“The 20mph limit in residential areas will be the norm but there will be some exceptions for main roads such as Dykes Hall Road and Holme Lane. We want to ensure people can get to where they need to be but safely and to the benefit of local residents.”
