TikTok has continued to grow and grow in 2022, including in our region. Here are seven TikToks from around Sheffield and South Yorkshire that went viral in 2022.

Sometimes it’s hard to figure out what will and what won’t go viral on TikTok, but we’ve seen loads from our region raking in thousands, and sometimes millions, of views this year. From Rotherham burger reviews, in which the town is branded a “s***hole”, to six-year-old Penny Barraclough’s heartwarming dance videos with nurses in Sheffield Children’s Hospital, we’ve seen the whole range.

Here are seven examples of TikToks that blew up in 2022.

This TikTok was posted in June and went viral after students at the University of Sheffield's Ranmoor student village discovered a fake notice, complete with university branding, warning them of a "sudden increase in pregnancies" in their block. They were told free condoms were available in the village's The Ridge building and it was signed by "Mike Rotchburns" the supposed "Mayor of Ranmoor". It received more than 1.2million views in the first three days.
