We’ve had a record number of entries for this year’s awards, held in partnership with Sheffield Bid, and Heart of the City II.
Covid may be re-writing the rules of retail, and accelerating the challenges faced by the high street, but dozens of businesses – big and small – still stepped up to tell us about the incredible work they’ve been doing in 2020.
Last year saw the awards run for the first time in Sheffield, celebrating shops - from popular chains, to independent businesses - and the people who keep them running efficiently.
This year, many of those same shops and cafes have been brought to their knees by this pandemic, and we at The Star decided it had never been more important to celebrate the vital businesses of our city centre.
The six award categories, voted for by the public and our experienced judging panel, cover successes in sales, customer service and celebrate individual and teamwork contribution
Major contributors to this years awards are the business improvement district Sheffield BID, which runs initiatives to improve the trading environment, Aberdeen Standard Investments which has invested £125m in regenerating The Moor, and Sheffield City Council who are progressing the £470m Heart of the City II development.
Our finalists are: 1554 Coffee and Gift Shop, John Lewis, Birdhouse Tea Bar & Kitchen, Hop Hideout, Beres, Cards & Gifts, Atkinsons, Patriot Games, Morris Bywater, S&J’s Pantry, John Lewis & Partners and Waitrose & Partners, Pre-Loved Kilo, and The Moor Market.
