But for those of us who grew up in the city in the 1980s, there are parts of the old place from that time which have a special place in our hearts and memories.
We have put together a picture gallery of some of those places which we will never forget from all those years ago, even though some of them have now long gone. Some of the places in the gallery still remain, but have changed massively in the intervening years.
Some of them are shops that we loved. Others are outdoor favourites that captured our hearts in those days.

5. GT Sports

6. Millhouses Park
Millhouses Park was a great place to go in the 80s. only did it have this boating lake, with paddle boats for hire,p it also had at one point and outdoor poolm putting green, and tennis courts. This picture is from 1982 Photo: Sheffield Newspapers

7. ABC Cinema
The ABC Cinema, on Angel Street, showed some great films. You would queue round the side out towards Rackhams. This picture is from August 1985 Photo: Sheffield Newspapers

8. Gaumont cinema
The original Gaumont cinema at Barker Pool was demolished some time around the early 80s, and replaced by this more modern mirrored building, which was in place by the time iconic 80s films like Ghostbusters and Gremlins were being shown in the city.
