But for those of us who grew up in the city in the 1980s, there are parts of the old place from that time which have a special place in our hearts and memories.
We have put together a picture gallery of some of those places which we will never forget from all those years ago, even though some of them have now long gone. Some of the places in the gallery still remain, but have changed massively in the intervening years.
Some of them are shops that we loved. Others are outdoor favourites that captured our hearts in those days.
How many of these did you love going to?

13. Beatties / Peace Gardens
Take you pick on this one. Beatties, pictured with the yellow sign among the shops on Pinstone Street, was a massively popular place to go in the 80s for people wanting toys or models.Sadly, it's long gone. But the Peace Gardens, in front, was a great place to relax on a trip into town. It has been massively refurbished from its 80s days. Photo: Sheffield Newspapers

14. Wimpy, Fargate
The Wimpy on Fargate was the place to go for a burger back in an era before McDonalds had even opened a venue in Sheffield. Staff used to dress up in a Mr Wimpy costume for parties. Photo: Sheffield Newspapers

15. Owlerton Stadium
This venue is still there - but the stadium has changed massively, and the syle of the bikes and the clothing is vastly different to those shown in the pictures of Sheffield Tigers speedway racing right at the start of the 80s, a period of large crowds. Photo: John Kessen
