The mocked-up memorial in Page Hall, complete with candles and flowers, has caused much mirth online after appearing on Popple Street on Saturday evening.

But it also highlights again the serious problem with rubbish, and the vermin it attracts, which is blighting the neighbourhood.

The woman who took this photo admitted it had made her laugh but told how she was fed up of the mess in the area.

"Nothing surprises me any more in Page Hall,” said the woman, who asked to remain anonymous.

"The rubbish seems to get worse and the rats have got muscles like bodybuilders.

"I would say it has got worse since Covid restrictions came into place too.”

The shrine appeared just days after Sheffield’s Streets Ahead highways maintenance team shared photos showing the results of a ‘deep clean’ in Page Hall last week.
