And he’s happy to report that they are still married, and very much in love.

In an interview with BBC Radio Sheffield today, Thursday, October 29, the 31-year-old IT sales manager said the show was exactly what he signed up for.

Owen appeared in the new series of Channel 4's Married at First Sight, in which he married primary school teacher Michelle, 25, from Hastings. The show’s finale aired last night.

He told host Toby Foster: "I am really happy...it is better than what I expected and I got someone to spend the rest of my life with.”

Owen, who had been single for a while but never fancied the dating scene, said he signed up on a whim but got really interested in the process after seeing how serious the matchmakers were.

"I thought there was a chance that this might work so why not and go ahead and get married to a stranger!" he laughed.

For Michelle, the journey has been an "absolute whirlwind".

"I think in hindsight both Owen and I were like, yeah that was crazy actually. But luckily it all worked out. So it's been amazing," she said.

Michelle also revealed that she decided to move up north with Owen, despite the uncertainties amid the lockdown.

"We'd just come back from our honeymoon, so we were like, are we going into lockdown together or separately?

"So we thought we needed to find a way to be together so we moved into Owen's mum and her partner's holiday home so we had the place to ourselves...it's been pretty great," she said.

She added although most people take time to get to know each other, both of them "felt right from the beginning".

"There was something that just really clicked on our wedding day. Our family and friends got on so well and I think it was a pretty positive start and it just kind of built from there".

Asked if they were in love, both Owen and Michelle said "yes" in unison.
