Callum Chambers, 30, was unloading a car boot outside his home on Firth Park Road at around 11.30pm on 21 June when the crash happened, leaving him hospitalised and requiring nine-hour surgery.

He said: “Two cars were racing on the road, one lost control first and smashed into a parked car, and that reeled off and hit a car on the right side of the road while it was driving. Then that one lost control and hit me.”

The father-of-one, who has been speaking to his two-year old son Elijah via video calls, said: “It’s all going to depend on recovery time. Both operations have gone well. I seem to be healing well, that’s what they [hospital staff] have said.

“I’m as good as can be considering the situation. I’m focused on my recovery and trying to get back to some normality.”

Since the crash the self-employed courier’s friends have raised more than £4,000 to help him while he recovers.

He said: “The support from my friends has been unbelievable. The only way I’ve been getting through it as easy as I have been is because of them.

“They have been amazing. I never thought the support from everybody would be this big.”

To date, no arrests have been made following the crash.

Callum said: “The police have been absolutely useless, they haven’t even spoken to me once the whole time. It’s quite embarrassing.”

A South Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “We work hard to ensure all victims receive the best possible service from the force. Regarding this incident, officers attended reports of a road traffic collision involving Mr Chambers on Sunday 21 June at 11:27pm.

Emergency services were on scene in less than 10 minutes of the 999 call being received. Since the incident, a roads traffic policing officer has been assigned to the case and has had regular contact with Mr Chambers’ family to keep him updated with all developments within the investigation.”
