"She was the one who encouraged my singing, she was the one who whenever I needed to smile I would always go and see, because she always knew how to make me laugh.

"And now she’s gone and it’s been very difficult, not just for me but also for all of my family.

"I’ve had Amy helping me through it, so thanks to her, and I want to say a massive thank you for all the messages I’ve received.”

He added: “She was always telling me not to give up on singing and was always telling me that she’s had a good life and stuff like that.

"I look back on it now and I think she had a good life and my nanan was the type of woman to say don’t even think about crying for me or else I’ll haunt you.”

He added that his grandmother had been in good health and her death was unexpected.

Mr Tomlinson’s performance of Hallelujah on BGT has been viewed more than 40 million times on the show’s YouTube channel alone and he has gone on to perform across the world.
