As the cost of living crisis continues to put strain on dog owners, many are being forced to give up their beloved pets. Helping Yorkshire Poundies, a charity in Rotherham, and Thornberry Animal Sanctuary, based in North Anston, are both seeing new dogs enter through their doors on a weekly basis. This means it is as important as ever for these four-legged friends to be adopted into loving homes so the charities can go on to help more pups in need.
If you see a dog in one of the photos below that sounds like it could be a good match for your household and lifestyle, please visit their websites to find out more about each animal and to fill out an enquiry form. And if you’re not able to adopt, you can also support the two charities by donating money to their services.

9. Peppa, a jack russel terrier
Peppa is a gentle older girl in desperate need of a retirement home. At 14 years old, she enjoys a gentle potter followed by a snooze. Peppa would prefer a home with very low leaving hours as she can be unsettled alone. Peppa should be the only pet in the household so she can have all the attention she rightly deserves, but could live with children who are aged 12 plus with understanding of a senior lady. 10. Honey and Katalya, a Yorkshire terrier and a crossbreed
Honey and Katalya are a bonded pair of little ladies who arrived together and are in the search for their forever home. They are both gentle and friendly with people. Thornberry does not know their history, but they believe they could be a good match for families with children aged 12 plus. They are aged seven and almost five years, and are not completely housetrained so they will need a little time to settle in. They could live with other dogs who are similar in size. 11. Poppy, a Lhasa/bichon, and Rosie, a Yorkshire terrier cross
Poppy and Rosie are looking for a forever home together. Ten-year-old Poppy has sadly been diagnosed with cancer and will remain under Thornberry's care at no cost to the adopter for medical care and food. She needs a loving home where she can live out the rest of her days with her best friend. Rosie, aged four, will need to be kept happy in her forever home long after Poppy passes away. They will need to be the only pets in the home and could be housed with children aged 12 and over. Photo: Thornberry Animal Sanctuary

12. Franko, a lurcher
Four-year-old Franko has arrived from a well loved home, but sadly a tragic change of circumstances meant his former owner wanted a better life for him. Franko is a bundle of fun and will make a great addition to his new family. He has previously lived with children of varying ages so could live with children confident with a bouncy boy. He is good with dogs and could live with other medium or large dogs, but this is not essential. Photo: Thornberry Animal Sanctuary
