As the cost of living crisis continues to put strain on dog owners, many are being forced to give up their beloved pets. Helping Yorkshire Poundies, a charity in Rotherham, and Thornberry Animal Sanctuary, based in North Anston, are both seeing new dogs enter through their doors on a weekly basis. This means it is as important as ever for these four-legged friends to be adopted into loving homes so the charities can go on to help more pups in need.
If you see a dog in one of the photos below that sounds like it could be a good match for your household and lifestyle, please visit their websites to find out more about each animal and to fill out an enquiry form. And if you’re not able to adopt, you can also support the two charities by donating money to their services.
5. Taz, a bulldog
One-year-old Taz is full of character and loves the limelight. He needs a confident home as he will push boundaries. Taz has shown no issues around other dogs, but due to his age he can 'hump' other dogs when he's excited. He will be neutered soon on the advice by the vets, but at the moment he will be best suited to a pet-free home. He loves food and is friendly with everyone he meets - he's sure to be lots of fun. 6. Ren, a lurcher
Ren is such a gentle girl who came into HYP's care as a very underweight stray, but she is eating well and gaining weight. She is aged around three-years-old and will happily snooze the day away after a zoom around and a play with her toys. She is great with other dogs and would love to live with another sighthound for some playtime. She is great on a lead but can be keen to chase birds and squirrels. She would like a home with a decent-sized secure garden. Photo: Helping Yorkshire Poundies
7. Indi, a bull breed
Indi is only 14 months old and is such a sweet, friendly girl who loves everyone she meets. She is a big girl at around 35kg, but surprisingly calm and relaxed around the house. She can be strong on the lead and will need a capable handler who is confident with larger/bull breeds, though she does walk nicely when away from distractions. She will need a pet-free home with a secure garden. She can live with children aged 10+ and can be left alone for a few hours without issues. Photo: Helping Yorkshire Poundies
8. Rolo, a cocker spaniel
Rolo is 11 months old, who is shy and nervous at first, but a total cuddle monster when he’s got his confidence. Rolo will need his confidence building, and plenty of gentle input and training to help him feel more confident out and about. He loves playing with his toys in his kennel and is full of beans. He needs some work on the lead, and isn't used to being off the lead which needs some work. He is a clever young boy who is best suited to a quiet, active home with a secure garden.
