Edale Mountain Rescue Team said it was called after the man, who had been out for a stroll with his family, took a tumble near Hallamshire Golf Club on Sunday, June 28, shortly before midday.

The team, which was called by Yorkshire Ambulance Service to assist, said the casualty had fallen down a five-metre cliff into a river gully.

“The call came in as the team were undertaking their monthly kit check session at base, so the team vehicles were able to respond straight away,” said the team.

“Whilst the ambulance service and a BASICS doctor assessed the patient the team set up for the stretcher evacuation. The walker was secured on the mountain rescue stretcher and carried back up to the waiting ambulance.

“After the job was finished, it was back to base to decontaminate and sort the kit ready for the next incident.”
