"His death is not being treated as suspicious and a file has been prepared for the coroner,” added a spokeswoman for the force.

Yorkshire Ambulance Service said it had been called to the site at 1.29pm to reports of a person having collapsed there.

Veolia, which runs waste and recycling services for Sheffield Council, said shortly after 1.45pm that the site would be closed today ‘until further notice’ due to ‘unforeseen circumstances’.

It has advised people to keep checking its website or Twitter account for updates on when the centre will reopen.
