As these pictures show, groups of Sheffield people have worked in Covid vaccine centres, cleaned up the city, stayed active, volunteered to help others and done all manner of activities for charity.
One of the biggest events this year was the Bears of Sheffield sculpture trail, which managed to cheer people up and get them out exploring the city while also raising the money to upgrade the Sheffield Children’s Hospital cancer and leukemia ward.
But there’s lots of small acts of kindness taking place too that often go unnoticed. If you want to celebrate some local heroes, just drop an email to [email protected]

6. School clear-up
This team from Wisewood Community Primary School on Ben Lane, Sheffield and Loxley and Wisewood Litter Pickers headed out to the nearby Spider Park and filled 18 black bags with rubbish in two hours in October. They planned to do another around now, dressed as Santa's little helpers! They are one of many teams who do great work keeping the city clean. Photo: Wisewood Community Primary School

7. Atlantic crossing
A group of four Sheffield friends, Jason Kerr, Phil Bigland, Dean Frost and Lee McCarthy, are currently rowing the Atlantic Ocean to shine a spotlight on the impact that premature birth has on babies and their families and to help raise funds for children’s charity Action Medical Research. They are called Elijah's Star Atlantic Crossing Team in memory of a little boy who was born at 25 weeks and lived for 37 days. Website: elijahsstar.com Photo: Action Medical Research
