South Yorkshire Police said this morning that ‘extensive’ police resources, including specialist negotiators, remained at the scene, where a large cordon is in place.

A spokeswoman for the force said there is no wider risk to the public.

The man is understood to have been throwing tiles from the roof, according to posts on social media, with photos appearing to show a number of tiles missing.

One woman told how she had been advised by the emergency services to sleep elsewhere last night, despite the lockdown rules, as she could not get to her house safely.
