Council announces plans to offer ‘order and collect’ service at Sheffield libraries

Sheffield Council is currently carrying out risk assessments and making sure signage is in place as it prepares to introduce the service in some libraries from August 10.
Once it is safely in place, the authority says it will then look to roll out the service to more libraries across the city before eventually reopening for book browsing and computer access.

Hide AdAll libraries and dates when the service will be available will, however, be confirmed at a later date.
Coun Mary Lea, cabinet member for culture, parks and leisure said: “Every library building is different and they all have to be assessed so that we know they are as safe as possible. This is an important part of reopening, with safety being our priority, and will mean services will be available at some libraries before others.”
The city’s libraries have been closed since March 20 with extended return dates and no book fines in place during the period of closure.
Sheffield Council has been adding additional titles to its online E-book catalogue to ensure readers can still access a wide range of books from their homes.

It’s been a very difficult time for so many people and the reassurance and welcome that a library brings is something we want to see re-established as soon as possible. We just need to make sure that all is in place for your safety.”
