The new images reveal how the former home of the City Sauna massage parlour on Attercliffe Road, Attercliffe, which was previously The Norfolk Arms pub, has been badly damaged by fire since the business’s owners moved to a new site. Charred beams are visible in the pictures, which also show old mattresses stacked up inside the premises, ‘vacant’ and ‘in use’ signs, abandoned clothing and a discarded condom wrapper. There is a photo too of a building control notice, attached to the premises by Sheffield City Council, describing how emergency measures had to be taken to make the site safe.

The photos were were taken by the Darkside Spirit Seekers, a team of urban explorers and paranormal investigators led by Mark Nicholas and based in Scunthorpe. The group recently shared photos of the former La Chambre swingers club nearby.

City Sauna was the location for both the Channel 4 show A Very British Brothel, which aired in 2015, and ITV’s 2019 show A Very Yorkshire Brothel. The first programme famously revealed how one customer liked having custard poured over him. The building began life as The Norfolk Arms pub, which first opened its doors in 1830 and when the Industrial Revolution hit Sheffield and workers from nearby factories, foundries and steel works crowded into the bar to slake their thirsts.
