The latest piece by the sculptor known as Wood Nymph appeared at Holme Lane Community Garden in Hillsborough on the morning of Thursday, May 7, ahead of the weekly Clap For Our Carers round of applause.

It follows similar works paying tribute to the efforts of NHS staff and other key workers during the coronavirus crisis which have been placed in Worrall, on Loxley Village Green and outside Stannington Park.

The previous works have been warmly received but the latest stone carving has not been unanimously welcomed, it is understood.

One person, speaking anonymously, said: “I’ve been told that this piece has already been the subject of a disgruntled local, who has said he plans to smash it into pieces. Hopefully he will calm down.”
