Body found in search for missing Sheffield man

A man’s body found in Sheffield is believed to be that of John Eyley, who had been missing since Monday.

Police had appealed for help to find the 74-year-old, who was last seen at his home in Woodhouse on Monday morning.

The body was discovered close to Retford Road yesterday, Wednesday, June 17, at around 3.30pm.

South Yorkshire Police said that while formal identification has yet to take place, officers believe it to be Mr Eyley.

“His family have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers,” added the force in a statement.

Following the sad news, Mr Eyley’s nephew Darren Beck said: “Linda and myself would like to thank everyone for such kindness and support. A big thank you to our police who have been absolutely fantastic, friendly and professional. Truly lovely people, our police force, and we are very proud to have you on our side.”
