There are many dogs that are ready to be adopted at rescue shelters in and around Sheffield.
We have taken a look at Thornberry Animal Sanctuary, in North Anston, and Helping Yorkshire Poundies, near Rotherham, to show you just a selection of the latest newcomers.
They are all looking for the right homes to suit their unique needs - whether it be an active and busy household with lots of stimulation, or a peaceful household with peaceful country walks.
If you are interested in any of the 11 dogs below, please visit the relevant website for more details on how to start the adoption process.

9. Roxy, a 2 year old Shepherd cross
Roxy is new to Thornberry and still under assessment. Roxy is believed to be aged around two years old, and is coming out of her shell more and more each day. She has a gentle temperament and enjoys to be with her favourite carers. She is not very tactile but loves to sit by your side. Roxy will need some on going confidence building when in her new home, a real sweetheart who has huge potential. | Thornberry Animal Sanctuary

10. Hettie, a 3 year old German Shepherd
Hettie arrived to Thornberry as an unclaimed stray – despite this she has a wonderful temperament and is full of love. She is incredibly bright and responds well to training. She is walking well on lead but would benefit from lead / recall training. Hettie has been good around other dogs so far and whilst we are still getting to know Hettie she could be introduced to children aged 12+ who are confident around big dogs. | Thornberry Animal Sanctuary

11. Sansa, a 5 year old Shepherd cross
Sansa is being cared for by Helping Yorkshire Poundies. She is desperate for a loving home. She can be timid with new people, but has never shown any aggression. She will bond very closely with her ‘person’ and will be the most loyal friend. She is immaculately clean in her kennel and has never had a single ‘accident'. She also knows her basic commands. She needs a quiet, understanding home who ideally have Shepherd experience. It is thought that she would prefer to be the only dog in her home, but she may be able to live with a calm neutered male. She needs a home who can give her all the love and attention that she deserves. | Helping Yorkshire Poundies

12. Hunter, a 4 year old Spaniel
Hunter is being cared for by Thornberry. He is best suited to a home familiar with spaniels and their needs. He is a high energy boy who is very strong on the lead – he would benefit from lead / recall training and could be a great candidate for some agility fun. Hunter can be uncomfortable with formal handling but does love a cuddle on his terms. He’s great fun and will make a lovely addition to an active family. He could live with teens+ and potentially with another dog of similar energy levels. | Thornberry Animal Sanctuary
