This week, The Star has looked at two shelters in and around Sheffield that are working hard to rehome many gorgeous dogs.
Thornberry Animal Sanctuary, in North Anston, and the city branch of Blue Cross are both advertising many pups that could transform your life for the better.
From ex-racing greyhounds that have never known life within a house, to a Staffy that was abandoned after 11 years of roaming the streets with their homeless owner, it is undeniable that you can also transform these dogs’ lives for the better, too.
If you see any dogs below that you can see a future with, make sure to register your interest with the relevant shelter via their website.
Here are just 22 of many dogs that are currently available for adoption in Sheffield.

17. Obie-Wan-Kenobi the Yorkshire terrier cross
Obie-Wan-Kenobi is a small dog with a huge personality! He is looking for a home with a secure garden where he can safely explore and play. This four year old cutie isn’t fully housetrained and does not like to be left for long periods, so it is important that he has a home with low leaving hours. It’s also important for his new family to commit to ongoing socialisation to help him become a well-rounded and happy dog. With the right care and attention, Obi is sure to become a loyal and loving companion. | Thornberry Animal Sanctuary

18. Tulip the Dachshund x Jack Russell
Tulip is a small dog with a large personality who will thrive in a home prepared to continue her training. This two-year-old girl will be best suited to a home based in a quiet area or rural home. Tulip is uncomfortable around other dogs so will need a pet free home and where children are present they will need to be teens+. Tulip will make a wonderful project dog for anyone with time and patience. | Thornberry Animal Sanctuary

19. Edwina the Jack Russell Terrier
Edwina is aged 14 months, and would love an active household, that is pet free . She could live with older children. Edwina is best suited to a home prepared to provide her with some basic training. She can be initially nervous of new people which is usually displayed by her barking at anybody new, but she soon relaxes and shows her very affectionate self. Edwina would make a wonderful companion in the right home. | Thornberry Animal Sanctuary

20. Bear the Poodle crossbreed
Bear is a lovable and excitable boy. He initially arrived at Thornberry feeling very nervous and in need of a welfare groom. Since he has been groomed he has become very friendly and is now an affectionate boy. Bear is six years old and will be best suited to an adult-only home, though he potentially live with other dogs dependent on a successful dog introduction at Thornberry. Bear is very much a handsome chap and will make a wonderful addition to the right home. Bear does need an owner who is able to understand when Bear needs his own space. | Thornberry Animal Sanctuary
