This week, The Star has looked at two shelters in and around Sheffield that are working hard to rehome many gorgeous dogs.
Thornberry Animal Sanctuary, in North Anston, and the city branch of Blue Cross are both advertising many pups that could transform your life for the better.
From ex-racing greyhounds that have never known life within a house, to a Staffy that was abandoned after 11 years of roaming the streets with their homeless owner, it is undeniable that you can also transform these dogs’ lives for the better, too.

5. Bella the Dachshund
Bella is a gentle five-year-old Dachshund with a heart full of love. She might take a little time to warm up, but she will be a loyal and affectionate companion. Bella will need a patient family who can help her build her confidence. Her first home was a quiet household where she didn't get much exposure to the outside world. As a result, she can be anxious in new environments and around new people. Bella would be best suited to a calm and quiet home. 6. Reggie the Chihuahua
Reggie is a lap dog who loves to be with people. Reggie needs a quieter home with no children. He could potentially live with other dog/s dependent on a successful dog introduction at Thornberry. 7. Bella the Maltese x Poodle
Bella is aged five years, and is very sweet girl who will thrive in a home where there will be someone around majority of the day. Bella is a real people dog, and is often seen having cuddles with Thornberry's volunteers. Bella does require a very secure garden as she has proven to be a little bit of an escape artist. 8. Cheeky the Pomeranian
Cheerful Cheeky is still under assessment at Thornberry. He is best suited to a quieter home - ideally as the only pet with dog walking friends. Cheeky is initially a nervous boy so children would need to be dog savvy aged 12+. Cheeky would make a perfect companion for someone with time and patience to build up his confidence.
