Some of these dogs have had a terrible start in life, suffering neglect or being found in an awful condition, while others have been luckier.
But they are all ready to start a fresh chapter in their lives as they look for a new human to take them in and give them the love and attention they deserve.
All 13 pooches are up for adoption through the charity Helping Yorkshire Poundies, which is based in Rotherham, South Yorkshire.

5. Desmond
Little Desmond (Des for short) is an older ShihTzu (aged around 10) who was found as a stray in awful condition. Poor Des was severely matted, very skinny and smelly. He’s now had a good groom, put lots of weight on and is doing great. Des is sadly blind – he is missing one eye and is blind in his other, but he copes well once he knows his surroundings. Des can live with a friendly, laid-back dog and confident cats. He is housetrained and fine to be left for a few hours. Des needs a quiet, child-free home as he can get worried with too much going on and might have a grumble if overwhelmed. He is ideally looking for a family with experience of blind/partially sighted dogs and with knowledge about caring for older dogs, but this is not essential and the charity will give lots of advice. Des really deserves to find a five-star home where he can settle into his retirement and be spoilt rotten like he deserves! Photo: Helping Yorkshire Poundies
Beautiful Freya is looking for her dream five-star home. She is a 10-year-old Korthals Griffon (Wirehaired Pointer-type gundog) who has been very loved and well cared for in her previous home. Freya is needing to find a new home due to not getting on with another dog she lived with, and needs a PET FREE home, although she is OK to walk with dogs out and about. She is a very, very sweet girl who is still active and loves to be off her lead chasing her beloved tennis ball! Freya gets upset if she is left (she has never been left before), so does need a home where she won’t be left alone, and would need to sleep upstairs in the bedroom with her new owners. She is housetrained, travels well and is generally a very well-behaved girl. She is raw fed, and has been used to this diet her whole life, so this is something that will need to be continued in her new home. Freya is a very special girl, who needs to find a family who will give her the very best retirement. We are ideally looking for a family who have Pointer (or similar breed) experience, but this is not essential. ** PLEASE NOTE: FREYA IS IN A FOSTER HOME IN THE HUDDERSFIELD AREA ** Photo: Helping Yorkshire Poundies
Lottie is THE most loveable Staffy! She is 11 years young and is looking for her dream retirement home where she won’t be left alone for long. She loves her person too much and gets upset when she’s left alone, bless her. Lottie needs Staffy people to embrace her loveable personality – she is a chatty little lady at times and tells you what she wants! Lottie is good with other dogs out and about, but stresses in a home with other dogs, so needs to be your one and only. A calm home would suit Lottie perfectly – she would be OK with visiting children, but would prefer the quiet life for most of the time! Lottie is a total sweetheart who so deserves to find a happy, loving home for her golden years. Photo: Helping Yorkshire Poundies
Chip is just 12 months old and needs a very active Staffy-loving home! Chip is a fab little guy who has endless energy and is still very puppy-like! It doesn’t seem that he has seen much of the world in his life so far – everything is fascinating to him and he is very alert taking in every sight and sound. Further socialisation is essential for Chip, and lots more training in general – he needs time spent with him and plenty of input. Chip has two loves in life – food and toys! He will play for hours with his toys in kennels, bless him. He needs an adult-only home with no other pets at the moment (he is generally OK passing other dogs out and about but wouldn’t have the social skills right now to live with another). He has SO much potential, we just need to find the right home who can harness his potential and help Chip mature into a happy, well-rounded little Staffy. Photo: Helping Yorkshire Poundies
