It's no surprise to hear Crookes ranks amongst coolest neighbourhoods in UK

“Crookes has an excellent array of independent businesses which mean you can get pretty much anything you fancy right there”

As a proud Crookes resident for several years now, I’m not at all surprised that it’s been named one of the UK’s coolest neighbourhoods.

It’s quietly been attracting a wider demographic of people, including young families and professionals, for a while now.

During Covid times, houses up for sale would be snapped up within a week if not even sooner.

While the area’s housing market has subsequently stabilised, prices have consistently been rising for some time now.

And there are many reasons why.

Situated atop one of Sheffield’s seven favourite hills, Crookes enjoys some of the city’s most spectacular views, and has three excellent parks located just a short distance away.

The Bole Hills, which looks over the Rivelin Valley and Stannington, attracts people in their droves and is one of the community’s focal points.

Whether it’s routine events like people gathering to watch the sunset, to walk the dogs, make the most of the slopes to go sledging on snowy days or those more unusual occasions such as this year’s solar eclipse or the annual Wine Week Fest, there’s often a buzz about the Bole Hills.

And that’s just one part of the neighbourhood, which has a very laid back feel.

The main road running through Crookes has an excellent array of independent businesses which mean you can get pretty much anything you fancy right there.

You can go to specialty coffee shop Cloud, where the staff are lovely, for a funky pour over or latté.

After that, why not head over to artisan bakery Crumb to pick up some freshly baked bread.

If you fancy going vegan, the Pom and Dana cafés are right there, or you can go the other way and pick up one of the famed pork sandwiches from Béres.

Fancy doing a spot of shopping? Why not head over to Just Natural to pick up your fruit and veg, and to zero waste shop, and to Unwrapped, to restock on your essentials.

If you’re in the mood to brighten up your living space, head to Flourish for a bright bouquet of flowers or to Small Plants for a more permanent addition to your home.

By night, you can head to the city’s best bistros No Name for dinner. San Lorenzo is a great neighbourhood Italian, and if you fancy an authentic pizza, whipped up in a matter of seconds on a wood-fired oven, Paesani is a very popular spot.

And if you’re heading out there for a drink, you can pick up a wide variety of craft beers from around the world in the Berlin Calling bottle shop, or head to Two Sheds if you want to sit in for a pint.

Wine fans after a more curated drinking experience can head to Tenaya, for an excellent array of blends and bottles to choose from, or for one of their very popular tasting nights.

Just around the corner is Crookes Social Club, which has a wide roster of music acts and comedy performers regularly taking to the stage, if you want to extend your night in Crookes a bit further.
